Using one of our flat surface cleaners will enable you to clean flatwork (concrete)
much faster than using a conventional wand and tip. Flat surface cleaners also
outperform rotary nozzles on jobs as small as residential driveways (which means
you make more money per hour using a flat surface cleaner). It is much easier to
hit every square inch of the work when you use surface cleaners too, and to clean
more evenly.
Whenever you consider adding any surface cleaners to your arsenal, always look
for the payback time. If you are targeting $100 per hour in your business sales,
for example, a $500 tool pays you back when it saves you five hours. After the
five hours are saved, the surface cleaner is free and actually pays you by saving
time from that day on. A surface spinner can cut the time it takes to clean over
a regular wand and tip by as much as 50% and cut the time over using a rotary
nozzle by about 25%.
If you clean two driveways per week and save 30 minutes each time, that surface
cleaner is saving you one hour per week (or paying you back $100 per week). At that
rate, it would take 7 weeks to pay for a $700 surface cleaner. After the 7 weeks
(or 14 driveways) the surface cleaner is free to you. In the eighth week, your new
tool starts paying you to own it. That is the smart way to invest in tools.
When deciding what size unit to look at, consider the pressure washer you are
going to drive it with. First off, it takes between 2000 - 4000 PSI to run these
tools. If you run between 2 - 4 GPM, consider a 2-arm 16" through 24" model as your
best choice. If you operate between 4 - 8 GPM, 21" through 30" models with 2-, 3-,
or 4-arms are excellent choices. Try to keep your flow at around 1.5 to 2 GPM per
nozzle.
Surface Cleaners/Spinners can be made of composites like nylon or metals
like aluminum or stainless steel. Prices vary widely according to quality and
size. Most name-brand machines will give you good service for years and years,
so choose one that is well-suited to your needs over the long haul.
NOTE: If you clean building interiors, a vacuuming surface cleaner is the ideal
tool to use. Attach a vacuum to your vacuuming surface cleaner, and you will suck
away the wash water before it can puddle on the floor or run to areas where it
might damage interior finishes. If you are looking for vacuuming surface cleaners,
you will find them under "Environmental Cleaning".
NOTE: Inexpensive surface cleaners sometimes use spinners produced in China. These
parts are likely to require more frequent maintenance than their European or
American-made counterparts.
We offer you surface cleaners from Mosmatic, Steel Eagle, Whisper Wash,
and General Pump. These are all brands we believe in. The prices vary widely, as
does the durability. The lower the price, the less you should expect in durability.
It is more important to perform regular maintenance on the lower-priced
surface cleaners than you might expect. Regular greasing of the spinner is the most
important upkeep you can do.
Whether you prefer a surface cleaner that hovers or one with casters is a personal
decision. Either design has worked well in the field for decades.
With all of the models and manufacturers to choose from, we recommend Mosmatic as
our brand of choice. We base this on the construction of these tools - stainless
bodies, Swiss-made swivel, etc. |
